DLF has developed special and very small leaved types of white clover –
microclover – for use in lawns together with grasses. Modern grass seed
varieties combined with tiny microclover can produce a beautiful green lawn
all year round. These microclovers produce their own fertilizer which feeds
the grass to keep it healthy and green. At the same time, their deep roots
reduce the need for watering. The resulting dense growth inhibits weed
establishment while providing an attractive lawn.
We promote the use of clover for organic lawns.
Before the 1950′s, clover was considered an essential and desired part of
lawns. Then 2,4D broadleaf killer came on the market and smart marketing
by the chemical companies influenced homeowners that anything but grass
in their lawn was a weed. Clover’s benefits include high drought tolerance
and nitrogen fixation – which make for an attractive and low maintenance
“green” green lawn – no chemicals or fertilizer needed.
Traditional manicured lawns use tons of water, broad leaf weed killers, and
fertilizer. Adding clover to your lawn can end the need for this waste.

GoodNature > Microclover
In the old days, prior to the invention of chemical weed killers and fertilizers,
clover was included in lawn seed mixes. Microclover and grass actually work
well together - the clover pulls fertilizer out of the air and brings it down to the
soil. The microclover varieties that we use flower less prolifically than
standard white clover and they tend to spread well, so you don't have the
same patchy look you get with regular white clover.
