The Spring trees now block most of the new

building from the blog camera, which is fine,

because, since the site crane came down last

weekend, there has been no sign of work on the

Connecticut Ave. side of the building.

Construction update on 5333 Connecticut

I received the following report from Robert

Lockhart, the project manager for the building at

5333 Connecticut.  Randy Speck Chair, ANC 3/4G

Mr. Speck,

As I am sure you know, the tower crane has been

successfully removed. Deliveries of material up

into the building are now being made utilizing the

hoist at the back of the building. PEPCO is

currently pulling electric cable to the electric room

and we should have power by the middle of next

month. That will allow us to build the elevators

and start the air conditioning in the building. With

controlled air and the roof on the building, the

finish trades will be able to start finishing units.

The exterior of the project is also getting ready

for a transformation. In the near future the

installation of the metal panels will start. The first

panels will be erected at the courtyard and will

progress to the front of the building. The soldier

piles that originally supported the excavation of

the hole will be cut down and the backfilling of

the site will begin. Once that earthwork is in place

we will be able to start the construction of the

circular drive that will serve the Conn. Ave. side of

the building. While that is ongoing, the new

sidewalks can also be installed. Throughout these

operations we plan to maintain fencing around the

site as a safety measure. I will notify you before

the pedestrian traffic needs to be rerouted to

allow the existing sidewalks to be demolished to

make room for the new sidewalks.
