The building is quickly advancing upward, so this
week we have moved the progress comparison
focal point from the NW corner of the site to the
following two points;
directly across Connecticut Ave
the Southeast corner on Kanawha St.

Chris, the electrician, reported there were only five
crew on site today, from the electrical
subcontractors. The rest of the crew had this
summer Saturday off, and the electricians were
making use of the empty site. Chris also reported
that on a typical day, in addition to the Baker
Cement crew, there were electrician, plumbing,
rebar, and metal subcontractors on site.

At 6:30A a flatbed offloaded a baby backhoe that
parked in the first parking place headed West on
Kanawha St -- across Kanawha from the large,
orange “No Construction Vehicles Allowed” sign;
not sure if this equipment belongs to Grunley. The
crane was at full blast in the AM shifting supplies
and delivering cement, and the crew spent the
day pouring and managing the new cement.

Met Rob Soper, Senior Site Supervisor for Grunley,
this morning -- as patient and friendly in person as
in emails. He explained much of the Southeast
corner that is lagging behind will not be part of
the building, and so does not command the same
priority. He also confirmed the following: At the
very bottom of the site is level one, which is
parking, and level two which is parking. Then
comes that schizophrenic level, level three, which
Rob called the cellar and the Building Blog has
been calling the ground floor; when driving in from
the gate, the road leads into the building level
three. The fourth level is the first floor, which is
the pedestrian entrance for the building. And the
fifth level is the second floor of the building. It is
this fifth level that received most of the attention
today.

The fifth level gang forms now spread across the
West side of the site. The crew continued
preparing for the cement on the West fifth level
and the East fourth. We saw a first for us; the
crane shifted a bucket of cement to the fifth
level, one of the crew removed one of the fifth
level gang form tiles, and the cement was pour
through the fifth level on to the fourth level
below. Way cool.

The cement trucks brought loads for the NE
corner, fourth level, as the crew erected gang
forms for additional fifth level walls in the NW
quad.

Lots of activity weaving wire and rebar grids for
fourth level. On the Northwest side, the gang
forms we’re removed to expose the concrete
pillars. Work on the Southeast corner finally
started to catch up with the rest of the site
