- Included Sunday in this week, so the first snow

of the season could be added to the photo gallery.

- The backhoe started early -- very early for a

Saturday morning -- digging in the southeast

corner and foreshadowing a busy day, but by

9:30A the large backhoe was idle and a new-to-

the-site baby backhoe took over the work -- at a

much lower noise level.

- The rest of the day, the onsite work was done

by the crew on the Kanawha retaining wall -- for

forklift and baby backhoe supporting them.

• Friday, 06 December, 2013

- At 7A for two hours, the crew and their trucks

gathered at the entrance -- deciding if the rain

would go away or they would. The rain won; there

was no construction activity.

- At 10A the forklift unloaded a delivery of lumber

and around noon there was another delivery.

- At 3:18A another small bulldozer arrived along

with another wave of rain.

• Thursday, 05 December, 2013

- Activity was less frenetic today. Work on the

retaining wall moved front-and-center on

Connecticut Ave. The backhoe and bulldozer

focused on digging and trucking the southeast

side, and the Jurassic Giraffe continued digging

holes on the far east side. At 8:15A the smaller

construction trailer was hoisted up next to the

larger construction trailer against the southeast

side.

☆ YouTube Video - Slow Start To Busiest Day So

Far

The day started with the activity off camera; the

backhoe helped with the Kanawha retaining wall

to the far southwest, and the Jurassic Giraffe did

its usual digging on the far northwest corner.

However, by 9A the site was a beehive of dump

trucks, with the new bulldozer helping the

backhoe load. And the Jurassic Giraffe moved to

the east side, where the backhoe cleared away

the cement drive yesterday. At 9:40 another

construction trailer was delivered. This was

definitely the busiest construction day so far.

The site manager and crew arrived late at 7:20A;

perhaps they were stuck in the infamous Military

Road traffic, shown at the left of the screen.

When work began, the backhoe helped pull dirt

from Kanawha retaining wall, then ripped up the

east side cement drive, loaded the cement pieces

into a dump truck, and spread a dump truck load

of gravel in place of the drive. About 11:30A, a

medium-sized bulldozer joined the site equipment.

The Jurassic Giraffe started in northwest corner

but went idle after about an hour; another new

piece of equipment -- a man-in-a-basket mover --

was used to repair the Jurassic Giraffe. Again, the

human crew continued exposing and building the

Kanawha St. retaining wall. (3:12 min)

The backhoe buried the pool of water in the

center of the site, then proceeded to pull down

the old retaining wall on the far northeast side of

the site -- the wall between the site and 3710

Military Rd -- and spent the rest of the day

dancing around the site. A wood chipper was

brought to the far east side of the site to make

short work of several large tree branches. The

crew continued exposing and building the

Kanawha St. retaining wall, and the Jurassic

Giraffe continued digging hole on the Military side.
